Late posting this week because of a ton of rearranging in the back of the store that's going to free up space for some VERY exciting new additions, hopefully in time for Free Comic Book Day, and then Jay and I went to see Ready Player One with our friend Brian after hours.
Ready Player One is a movie that, like Watchmen, I would have thought was unfilmable, but there it was. I was most surprised that the constant pop culture name-dropping that people loved so much in the book seemed to take a total backseat to the story in the movie (especially considering that Capcom, American Greetings, Toho, and so many others must have gotten their piece) without taking bigger narrative deviations for theme, structure, or character development. I think it was more fun counting how many times they could mention Star Wars without owing Disney than it was paying attention to the story.
