Ssalefish GSO First Look #243 for 12.29.21

The best gift we could have gotten this year came through at the eleventh hour: our new roof surviving the two torrential downpours we had earlier this month, being able to replace the ceiling tiles that had been obviously damaged since white was switched out for black right before Free Comic Book Day in August, and our new floor going into place!

The appearance of the store has been one of the things we’ve taken the most pride in and put the most thought into since we opened five years ago. Originally, Jay & I painted the walls, laid the floor, hung the vintage LEDs, swept, mopped, dusted, replaced the fluorescents that light the shelves, straightened up, and curated the engaging and unique artwork. To be put in a position that put all of that and our entire stock in jeopardy due to circumstances outside of our control and then having almost no agency to correct it due to the replacement being the shopping center’s responsibility and supply logistics being what they are ( you think getting bags & boards is rough, try roofing material), it took a mental toll on us the way navigating the pandemic never did. It’s disheartening to hear about each new COVID variant, but our hearts were dropping every time a dark cloud rolled into view. When we had to close during the 2020 lockdown, every non-essential small business in the county was in the same boat, this year it was just us, Papa John’s, and the chiropractor to lean on each other for support.

The FREE Marvel calendar is BACK for 2022, so the first 50 people to make a purchase next Wednesday can start planning out their year!

It could just be my imagination, but it feels warmer, brighter, calmer than it has since May. We appreciate you bearing with us for the last seven months (and last five years for that matter) and all your kind words about us getting back to normal (and that goes double for everyone that must surely have been kidding when they said they liked the concrete floor covered in glue residue just as well)!

There WILL be new comics next week, Wednesday, December 29th! For those of you that keep up with Final Order Cutoff, there will thankfully NOT be a list this week!

One more time, our hours this week are:
