Obviously I didn’t die while in Zion National Park last week, which I’m very thankful for, but I’ve completely decided that I hate heights, pretty much anything over 50 feet or so, especially if there isn’t a waist high rail at the edge. Panic attacks were had, but me and the rest of the family are home safe and sound with plenty of memories of the desert.

Our October Warehouse Sale will be next Saturday the 15th from 11 AM - 4 PM AND Friday the 14th from 4 PM - 7 PM! A common concern we’ve heard is that many folks are caught up at work or with other obligations most Saturday afternoons, so we’re trying to make the opportunity as available as possible without diminishing the novelty. I’m out of town this week in Utah with my family (we did my choice of Disney last September) and you can’t really appreciate the scale or majesty of this town of Santa Clara from the pic. We’re going up to Zion National Park, so assuming I don’t fall off Angel’s Landing tomorrow or get swept away by the river in the Narrows on Friday, I’ll see you all next week!

One of my favorite books for this current week’s packed slate of new releases was Crashing #1 from IDW, focusing on a trauma doctor trying to treat superheroes and their individual unique physiologies in a hospital that wants to leave on the curb because of the insurance liability, plus she has a pill problem that’s got her in the thrall of the villains. ::whew:: If that sounds good to you, pick up a copy and get it signed by series creator/ writer Matthew Klein on Thursday, September 22nd from 3 PM - 6 PM at the Winston store!

Thank you for the great response to our new t-shirts! I’ve had an idea for the design for years, always figured I’d find just the right person to draw it for us and roll it out for a Halloween Comic Fest, but it seems HCF is a thing of the past and I was bored one day, so I finally made it happen myself! Only $12.99 while supplies last, and they’ll be available at all three locations starting Thursday!

It’s hard to say if I’m more excited about the half-cocked idea Greensboro and Concord are executing tomorrow to be up and operational Friday at both stores, or the ad I made this morning to promote it. My favorite part is that I called Colton to ask for a straight-on selfie of him looking surprised, he asked if it could wait until he took a shower, I said no, it would be better right now without telling him what it was for, and I was totally right! Very much feast or famine lately when it comes to new releases, 86 titles last week, only 61 this week, 93 coming your way week!

With today’s delivery of my Fabrikor display case from Ikea, my basement remodel, begun over two years ago while we were still shut down for COVID, is finally complete! Now I’ve got more room for books on those shelves, but with the Iron Fist by Ed Brubaker & Matt Fraction, Silver Surfer by Dan Slott & Mike Allred, and She-Hulk by Dan Slott omniboo on the way this fall, I’m still gonna have some tough choices to make soon.

The unanimous staff favorite Eight Billion Genies will be fully restocked on the new release all next Wednesday, and we’ll be offering the same Buy 3 Get 1 FREE offer for new readers that was such a hit last time, so much so that it got the attention of Charles Soule himself!

Stephen’s So-Called Emo Life!

• Hanging Rock State Park - about an hour northwest of town, we did a six mile hike to warm up for going to Zion National Park in Utah next month.

• Hokkaido Sushi - three “doors” down towards Wendover from the Shoppes on the Curve (where we’re located), they don’t have an all-you-can-eat option, but me and the folks on the shop staff ate our fill for cheaper than the normal all-in price at other places, and it was delicious!

• Bunheads - an Amy Sherman-Palladino diamond in the rough on Hulu, a half season flop from 2012, between Gilmore Girls and the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It reminds me of Brian Michael Bendis espousing the virtues of Lorelai and Rory’s banter and the way it influenced the dialogue in Ultimate Spider-Man and New Avengers and Powers.
